Kenmuir Holiday Cottage is a traditional Galloway home in South West Scotland, built in the 1860s and set in its own large private garden near Ardwell. The self-catering cottage has recently been upgraded and modernised, but still retains its rustic charm.
A large and comfortable living room has a wood-burning stove supplemented by electric radiators. There is a comfortable sofa-bed, a Sony 40" flat screen TV with Freesat HD, and a Sony BluRay/DVD player which will also play your favourite CDs and allow you to listen to the radio. There is a selection of DVDs available for you to watch, together with a collection of books & board games. Internet access via free WiFi is available so you can keep in touch whilst you are on holiday.
The cottage sleeps up to 4 adults and one small child (cot provided). There is a large comfortable bedroom with a double bed, and a smaller bedroom with a bunk bed. Both have electric radiators & blackout curtains. There is a bath fitted with an electric shower, and a separate toilet. A variety of good quality towels are provided for visitors.
The well-appointed kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, washing machine, electric oven and hob, microwave, toaster, kettle, George Foreman grill, and a large fridge/freezer. Tea, coffee, and sugar are provided, and all visitors receive a welcome pack of chocolates and wine.
The cottage has a large fenced private garden, mainly grassed over, where it is lovely to sit and unwind in the sun with a glass of wine, or have a BBQ. A large picnic bench, two sun loungers, and other outdoor chairs are available for guests to use. Melamine plates, bowls and cups for use outdoors are available, as is a picnic rucksack for days out. There are a few fir trees in the garden to provide a wind break, and a large hedge for privacy.
From the garden you can see the coast of Ireland in the distance. The cottage is situated on a farm road with little passing traffic, and there is a large secure shed with a BBQ set. is stored. We have also got boxes for re-cycling your bottles, packaging & aluminium. There is a plentiful wood supply for the stove in the living room, plus a starter pack of coal. The shed can also be used for storing cycles, fishing/walking gear, and outdoor equipment.
The cottage is most suited for small to medium dogs, but larger dogs can usually be brought with prior notice.
Heading south, a 15 min walk along a coastal footpath through the fields will take you to sandy Ardwell Bay, and 3 miles to the north east, and just 7 minutes away by car, is the village of Sandhead, which boasts a 7-mile long beach called Luce Sands. Situated on the west shore of Luce Bay, the beach is very gentle, very clean, and has beautiful sand. It is ideal for swimming, windsurfing, paddling, building sandcastles, playing with the dog, walking, and sunbathing.
