The Stables (formerly the Farmhouse) is our family home and we also use it as a large holiday letting house. It was built in the 18th century and was originally the farm stables for 13 cart horses and one stallion. Lying at the heart of my family's working farm, we are now the third generation of the family to own the house. It has been beautifully converted into a large holiday house. With sweeping views across the Sound of Mull and surrounding countryside, this spacious and well-furnished large holiday house is full of charm and feels like a home away from home.
Comfortably sleeping 12, and with its own attractive walled garden, this large self catering holiday house consists of 1 superking bedroom, 1 kingsized bedroom, 2 twin rooms and 2 bunk rooms. It has two bathrooms and a downstairs shower room.
The house has recently been substantially upgraded. We have built a spacious new kitchen which has spectacular views for 40 miles down the Sound of Mull to the hills above Oban. With underfloor heating and an electric Aga, it provides a wonderful room to admire the view whatever the weather. It is equipped to a very high level and there is also a large fridge freezer, ample storage space, a ceramic hob, a Nespresso coffee machine and two dishwashers. It has granite worktops, a stone floor and generous cupboard space. French doors lead out of the kitchen onto a lawn and there is garden furniture and a kettle barbecue for eating outside.
Coming off the kitchen is a utility room with a larder cupboard, washing machine, tumble dryer and freestanding oven. Further cupboard space is available here. In the downstairs shower room there is a molly maid drying rail. There is also a boot room with ample space for coats and wellies as well as storage for hats, gloves etc.
The spacious drawing room has similarly spectacular view and features exposed wooden floorboards, comfortable seating space, some beautiful pieces of period furniture, a large wide-screen TV, table tennis and a welcoming open fireplace which we keep stocked with a constant supply of firewood sourced from our farm. A door leads out onto a well maintained sheltered lawn.
The Stables now has new carpets and refurbished bathrooms. It is heated throughout and features exposed wooden floorboards and light airy rooms.
The house is heated with a ready supply of hot water. Egyptian cotton linen is included and we can provide towels for £60. Dogs are welcome. No smoking.
